It is estimated that there are approximately 159,000 women living with metastatic breast cancer in the United States in 2013. This number is expected to grow to approximately 164,000 by 2015. Metastatic breast cancer, otherwise known as stage IV breast cancer, is the most advanced stage of breast cancer and means that the cancer has spread from its original location to other parts of the body. Although metastatic breast cancer is generally not curable, it may be controlled with treatment.
